Work experience is something most of us look forward to in year 10 (some more than others). But either way it is a brilliant insight into life after school. When I first found out I would be doing work experience in year ten I was excited at the idea of having that independence and learning new things about the world of work. But I still wasn’t sure of what to expect. Would I be bored? Would I actually learn anything useful? However, looking back now I can definitely say it was a valuable week and an incredible experience. 

I learnt a lot over the week to do with Twisted- the softwares they use, how the company works, more about what they do etc. I even saw some clients come in and watched a lot of their work in action. I found it all really interesting and definitely learnt a lot about Twisted itself. At the same time I also learned a lot about the workplace in general: the independence that comes with it but also the responsibility, to solve problems and be professional. Like I mentioned before, I cant say I know exactly what I want to do in the future from this week, but I can say that it has really helped me to get an idea of what kind of job. And the responsibilities that come with it.

Each day started at nine and once I arrived I started on some simple tasks like tutorials on how to use the softwares or just shadowing the staff there. And as the day progressed I got the chance to do some more challenging things myself like posters and blogs. Every day was different but I always had something to do and focus on. The tasks I were set were really interesting and the things I’ve learnt will stick with me.
A normal school day obviously starts at nine and finishes at three. It consists of breaks between lessons and longer lunches so the shift into a typical working day was very different as the days were longer and breaks were lesser. At first I was nervous, however it was a relaxed work environment and everyone was very friendly so I found the switch easier than I thought.
